In 1956, nickel was discovered in the area and it was agreed by the province and INCO to establish Thompson.  That winter, 24 diesel powered tractor trains dubbed the "Snowball Express" moved 300,000 tons of supplies around the clock from Thicket Portage to Thompson.  In 1990, Heritage North Museum was incorporated.  Our mission is to promote and preserve the heritage and history relating to Thompson and area.

We launched a Geocache site in June 2007.  It has attracted visitors and
hits from all over the world.
